REVIEW: Chapter 45 (A Meeting For Trying Out New Names)

Another interesting chapter this week. Midoriya was shown on the first part riding a train on his way to school. Someone recognized him and gave encouragement. At school, everyone was talking about how they were called on the streets. They felt real famous even for just one day thanks to the televised Yuuei Sports Festival. We get to know a great deal why Yuuei is a prestigious school and what a great honour it is to be admitted.

Iida Tenya seems to be composed as he talks to Midoriya
about his elder brother
We get to see Iida rushing in telling the walking Midoriya that they're going to be late. Midoriya said they were five minutes early to where Iida the baseline for a student worthy of Yuuei starting the day's activity is ten minutes early. Iida seemed weird and overly-dramatic as usual (wearing boots and a raincoat, haha) but he seemed gloomy at the same time. He's taking what happened to his brother gracefully. He even thanked Midoriya for causing unneccessary concern which was sooo polite and it really how much of a wealthy family he was raised in that kind of demeanor.

Aizawa-sensei's face unwrapped
Finally Aizawa-sensei entered the room without the bandages he was previously wrapped in. I am happy to finally see hi droopy-eyes once more. As soon as he began, everyone especially Kirishima and Kaminari suddenly got nervous since Aizawa has a habit of surprising students and causing them anxiety.

Aizawa-sensei's announcement for the formulation of hero names
But it was not a surprise examination or a sudden mock-battle, Aizawa announced that it is time for them to choose their hero name. Everyone was so excited.
The result of the nominations from the pros

Aizawa pointed out that the nominations will matter after their sophomore and senior years when their battle experience and combat skills are fully realized.

As expected, Shouto Todoroki has the most nominations. Although I had to agree it has something to do with the relation he has with Endeavor, I also believe the pros are aware of his potential to be a great hero. He's battle-smart, he's calculating, he owns two elemental types of quirks. That's more than enough to catch the eye of scouts and pros. And no, I refuse to believe Todoroki will be a sidekick of some hero.

Bakugou Katsuki came in second. It seems that what he did during the awarding ceremony was completely overlooked and the pros focused on his potential instead. Let's not forget that Bakugou has short fuse, will not cooperate in a team, looks down on others and has a mouth full of trash. But no, it all comes down to what he can offer I had to admit that it's difficult to see Bakugou as a role model and someone to look up to for kids, but the guy has charisma.

It was surprising that Midoriya did not get a single vote. It must have hurt since he qualified for the top 8 in the tournament.

As Aizawa-sensei pointed out, the list is subject to change. Everybody still has a chance to prove themselves and those kids at the top can be removed from their rankings. No worries Midoriya, my boy. I believe it's too early in the series to catch the attention of everyone. As All Might said, since you look so ordinary whatever heroic deed you do will be more pronounced since people are not expecting a lot from you.

Next was the formulation of hero names which was facilitated by no other than Midnight since Aizawa-sensei admitted he can't properly evaluate hero names. I enjoyed the frame where Aizawa was shown sitting with his sleeping bag in a corner while Midnight enthusiastically motivate the class to come up with creative names.
Class 1A presenting their hero names
Watching everyone present their hero name in front was hilarious. I was quite surprised that unlike Tsuyu who had known since elementary what kind of name she will use, the others don't. Froppy is an adorable name for a hero and added to the likeability of Tsuyu as character in this series.

Other names are too obvious and lack creativity especially Creaty by Momo. What? You can create so many things yet unable to create a creative hero name for yourself?! Uravity is not too catchy for me. I think Gravity Girl is much better than that but hey, who cares about my opinion? The kid with a rock for a face (because I forgot his name) looks so adorable with that shy reaction, awww. He looks so tough but he's really gooey. Ashido was really hilarious for trying so hard to come up with names.

Bakugou seemed keen to incorporate the word KILL to his hero name which Midnight discouraged him to use. He's going to be a hero, why would he use the word for a hero name? Might as well put the words murder and death in there too.

Shouto just wanted to be called Shouto and without any taglines, too. Iida chose to use also his name. He could not bring himself to use his brother's name as his own. It was made known that Ingenium can no longer use his legs and will give up on being a hero so he asked Tenya to use the name in his stead by which Iida apparently won't use.

Midoriya's speech about his chosen hero name, Deku
Midoriya my boy was the last to present his hero name and behold, he chose Deku. The degrading name Bakugou gave him which means worthless.

He decided to use the name since a certain someone changed the meaning of the word for him which gives off the vibe of not giving up.

Oh, Midoriya. Can't you give credit to Uraraka by saying it was her that gave you another meaning to that monicker? I am super excited for this development since I think they look good together. Damn those people who thinks Uraraka would end up with Bakugou. But isn't it awesome? Deku was given by Bakugou to degrade Midoriya but Uraraka gave it a more optimistic meaning? I am having another bad feeling about this, please don't make this a love triangle, no.

Moving on, the names that I really liked were:

Jirou's Earphone Jack, it really suits her but I have reservations about her tagline Hearing Hero. It's like a tongue twister.

Tokoyami's Tsukuyomi, The Jet Black Hero sounds someone to incite fear to the heart. It also sounds too gloomy. Fumikage Tokoyami as Tsukuyomi, wow, that really seems like a dark brooding figure ready to take me to the underworld.

The name that stood out for me was Eijirou Kirishima's Red Riot, let's forget the tagline the Hero of Hard Virility. Kirishima said he borrowed the idea from his hero idol Crimson Riot who was a hero from way back. I think Red Riot is total badass. Now if Bakugou can think of an awesome hero name for himself which isn't violent-sounding.

All Might's reaction to the surprise voter for Deku
And what caps off a good chapter than a good cliffhanger. While class 1A was busy with their presentation, Cementoss received a late vote and told All Might it was a single vote for Deku. I disregarded Cementoss' surprised reaction thinking a vote for Midoriya was just unexpected but no! All Might's reaction at the end really bothered and excited me, made me curse the fact that I had to wait for a week to know who it was.

And I am not really sure if the next chapter will reveal that person since there was no trace about what happened to Todoroki's visit with his mom. Todoroki looked sad, but he looks sad all the time.

The first person that came to mind considering All Might's reaction was Endeavor. He did seem to take interest in Midoriya after their encounter and there are panels to support this claim.

Another person I think will be someone we haven't seen yet, a new character imtroduced. I just had this idea since Kirishima mentioned a hero from long ago. It's possible a retired hero but a really powerful one in his day, a legend, a pillar of the heroics industry and respected voted for Midoriya which makes the vote more remarkable than anyone else's. Crimson Riot, perhaps? I thought since Kirishima dropped his name it has to have some relevance to the story than being just Kirishima's idol.

Come out next chapter please!
