REVIEW: Chapter 48 (Grasp the Hang of It)

The heroes some of the students picked
The choices for the on-the-job training of some of the lead characters are finally revealed this chapter. Finally.

After a chapter of absence, your favorite Bakugou Katsuki is shown facing Best Jeanist who told him he (Best Jeanist) doesn't like him (haha). Bakugou said he nominated him and Best Jeanist replied that the reason Bakugou chose his office is because he ranked among the top five most popular heroes. Best Jeanist is the fourth top hero. According to him, it has been a long time since someone like Bakugou came along. Most of his candidates were good kids while Bakugou have two sides of villain and hero in him. He said he will show Bakugou what it makes folks heroes.

It's interesting to know that since Bakugou is strong and through week-long training he'll be learn more how to strengthen himself, he picked a hero who will teach him about attitude. Best Jeanist speaks and sounds so formal, he might give Bakugou lessons about respect, proper usage of words and courtesy.

Best Jeanist did mention about reforming brutish people like Bakugou so let's see about that. Anyway, I think Bakugou is really strong and a change in his perspective will make him a better person.

I wonder why Best Jeanist was number four when in the third chapter he was mentioned as the third. Who is the third hero now?

Also, since Midoriya is mentored by the top hero and Todoroki by the second, it is only natural that Bakugou will have some relation to one of the top heroes. I was thinking third hero, but it appears Best Jeanist was fourth. Where are you third ranked hero?

Then Force Kind was shown telling about what his hero office does. As you see in the picture on the right, he gets his salary from the government. His office receives requests from police for back-up and it comes zone by zone.

It's obvious that Kirishima picked this office since he said he'll join a hero office specializing in counter-villainism and I was right. And as expected, Tetsu4 was there too. Apparently, a hero office can have multiple nominations.

Obviously, Kirishima and Tetsu4 team-up is here to stay. They did fought each other in the arena before and proved to each other their manliness (haha) so it's only expected they will be friends. I like them both.
This picture was taken from chapter 3 where Best Jeanist name
was spelled as Best Genist, and he was number 3 hero here not
number four as stated in this chapter - inconsistency?
Next stop, Ochako was shown talking with Gunhead, who was explaining what their hero office do. Unlike Force Kind whose office partners with the police and gets their salary from the government, Gunhead's office works on commission basis through specialized agencies. It depends on what sort of mission they get, from rescuing innocents to arrests. Basically, they're a private company.

Ochako noticed that the way Gunhead speaks is cute. Really. I guess because he's such a beefy man, one could expect he has this gruff and low voice like those men from wrestling. But I guess he was a muscle-man who turned out to be soft-spoken. Maybe that's the reason Ochako thinks he talks cute. Really Ochako.

So the two heroes gave information about how an office can thrive whether they partner with the government or specialized agencies, however, Uwabami (a character from another of Horikoshi's work Oumagadoki Zoo) told Momo and Kendou (orange-haired girl from class 1B) that a hero can have sidelines as well.

Not only can a hero be popular by doing official duties (heroic deeds), a hero can still boost his/her popularity through, in this instance, having an endorsement. You'll still earn cash by mostly not engaging in villainy but doing shows and commercials it seems.

As I've said in another forum, heroism in this manga also runs like the showbusiness industry. No wonder why Stain said they are superficial. Gone were the days when a hero is someone who is motivated by heroic deeds. Now it appears heroes are boosted by popularity and money and not with genuinely trying to help the weak.

A flashback panel of All Might's  trainee days! Yay!
Next part of the chapter, Midoriya was trying to use OFA as normally as possible to no avail that's why when he returned to GTs building he was bruised.

GT related to Midoriya that All Might handled OFA like it was normal to him that's why it was difficult for All Might to teach Midoriya about OFAs concept and that's the reason his guidance was not enough.

Gran Torino talked about All Might's predecessor.
GT then talked about how, when All Might was still at Yuuei, he made him spew. He also told Midoriya a bit about OFAs previous wielder.

Through Midoriya's reaction, GT was surprised that All Might never told Midoriya about that part. Just when I thought GT will share about what happened, a package arrived. Damn.

I guess, All Might's predecessor died and his death was a huge blow to All Might. And judging with GTs face when he told Midoriya about it, the death might be painful to him as well. As I've mentioned in the previous article, his death night be the cause for GT to suddenly step in and overlook Toshinori's training.

Anyway, I think GT was also devastated by the loss of a friend. Maybe he feels he need to train All Might since he's not only carrying his friend's power but his legacy as well. Toshinori is someone GTs friend entrusted his powers to so he felt responsible for him too. Or his friend's dying wish was for GT to train Toshinori. Whatever their past was, I'm sure to prepare tissues for it.

The oven and Taiyaki that made Midoriya realize
how he should have used One For All
Midoriya mentioned he could not find information about Gran Torino and I wonder why. A theory I formulated was, he no longer want to become a hero because he lost his friend. Maybe they were partners and he can't go on doing his hero duties without the former OFA wielder. Also, he was not able to protect his friend so he went on to train Toshinori and maybe feel a bit better to had a hand in honing the next generation OFA wielder then completely disappeared from hero radar.

Back to what happened, GT asked Midoriya to put the Taiyaki in the oven. When Midoriya served it, GT complained that it was cold. He told Midoriya that the oven he bought rotates inside. He can't just shove the huge plate in there because it won't turn thus it won't cook properly.

This is where Midoriya got his answer on what was wrong in his handling with OFA. Yes, an oven and Taiyaki.

He realized he fixated his attention to when and where he wanted to use OFA thus delaying his reaction time. To make it simple, he concentrated OFAs power to a single body part when he should've channeled it into his entire body.

Midoriya directing OFA in his whole body
Midoriya concluded that unlike before that he's concentrating OFA on a part, he should have used it uniformly, across his whole body.

Midoriya channeled five percent (the amount of OFA his body can handle at the moment) in his entire body. GT was impressed at how fast Midoriya arrived at that conclusion.

Next chapter, I'm predicting there will be a fight between GT and Midoriya to test if Midoriya handles OFA better than before.

Will he still break a body part? In what manner will Midoriya cultivate OFA, with speed attacks or strong defense? I hope he names original attack moves.

As Iida was already shown the previous chapter, it was not surprising he was not included this chapter. Showing most of the main cast was satisfying and the explanation from the heroes about how heroic offices work are informative.

However, no Shouto Todoroki was shown this chapter. I'm guessing he did joined his father's hero office. I also am beginning to wonder what happened between him and his mom, how did the meeting go and what did they talked about? It seems that after All Might, Todoroki has a lot to reveal in the current story arc. I hope we see him next chapter. Two chapters without Todoroki means something big will be revealed... I hope.

Nice chapter, though no amazing battle sequence, it's nice to see how the others are doing and what kind of offices they picked. Also very informative. All Might's past continues to be such a huge mystery. When I want a whole pack of information, I was given tiny pieces, which adds to the hype I am feeling about what happened to him and his master - and just who the hell is Gran Torino (and what happened to his height?! I predict he was goodlooking in his time)?!

REVIEW: Chapter 47 (To Wriggle)

Quite a late update for the latest release of Boku no Hero Academia but I can't wait to give a review about this chapter.

Lots of revelations and I came up with some of the usual speculation about some information that was given by the characters in this chapter. Not a lot of things going on since I think this is the training arc and the focus seems to be only on Midoriya's power upgrade and his growth.

All Might and the Inspector (I forgot his name) were the characters who opened the chapter and Inspector was telling All Might about the latest information he gathered about Noumu. Through DNA analysis, they were able to get a hold of Noumu's identity. He was a small time thug and he had a history of violent behavior. But also through DNA analysis it was revealed that there are atleast four people's DNA were mixed with Noumu's. Inspector said that Noumu's body had been "tweaked with drugs" and he's an "artificial human being made to measure up to multiple quirks" as a result, "his brain activity dropped." Inspector surmised that another person has a quirk that can grant quirks. Pretty much how One For All can be transferred.

I am assuming that whoever made Noumu has an idea about OFA. That person did not just grant another person a quirk, but he gave multiple quirks to that person. Like OFA. The strength of its wielders can be passed to another.

Is this person someone who accidentally received OFA? Let us not forget that Midoriya received OFA by swallowing a strand of All Might's hair.

There are plenty of questions that need to be addressed regarding the transfer of OFA. It was not stated how many can receive the power. Or if a person accidentally swallowed a body part of the current wielder. Or if the wielder dies without transferring it, will the power die with him.

Iida's headshot looks like a gundam here
However we did see Iida together with a hero from Tokyo Normal Hero Office. They seem to be patrolling. I don't know anything about what this hero office do but I mentioned from my preceding chapter review that the office might be a way for Iida to be able to cross path with Stain. So, I guess they're in charge of patrolling duties for peace and order.

It's revealed that Iida was really looking for Stain.

Then we saw Stain talking with Shigaraki Tomura and Black Mist who doesn't look all smokey. He's got a solid mass of a body afterall. This is the first time I saw him in that form, IIRC.

The characters with the most impressive character
designs gathered in a single panel - fangirl mode activated!
They were asking Stain to join their company. But Stain was not impressed of Tomura's objective.

Shigaraki Tomura revealed that want to kill All Might and destroy the things he didn't like. He then showed Stain some pictures with Midoriya's face from the Sports Festival. We can tell he's holding the photos of every student from class 1A.

Tomura said he can start from them.

I think because All Might proclaimed during the awarding ceremonies that they will be heroes and Tomura remembered what his master telling him they will be his opponents someday so he decided to kill them immediately.

Stain answered, "What sense is there to bloodlust without a cause?" which added more mystery to his personality. Therefore Stain is not someone who just want to kill heroes to satisfy his bloodlust.

Tomura's sensei told Black Mist he wanted Stain to stimulate growth in Tomura whose impulse is to destroy. His sensei wants him to think from his shortcomings for that growth to happen. He said it's what education is all about.

Another person who wants to stimulate growth by letting the student realize his shortcomings...

The last part of the chapter, we saw the continuation of Midoriya's encounter with All Might's former homeroom teacher, Gran Torino. At last, Midoriya's new hero costume is finally unveiled and it...

Midoriya's newly repaired hero costume with minimal changes
looks the same old jumpsuit his mom made for him but apparently the people from support made just a few alterations to it.

I think it turned a shade darker than the older version or maybe the room was only dark it seemed darker.

Gran Torino and Midoriya resumed their training. As expected, GT was bouncing off the walls at an incredible speed. Midoriya began to wonder about the old man's quirk.

GT mentioned something about the ninth inheritor of OFA. I thought he was referring to All Might. I checked chapter 33 and counted the eyes peeking out, there were only eight including All Might. Which means Midoriya is the ninth?

Looking at the present chapter where GT said: "To think the ninth inheritor' be such a soggy man... He's a damned novice to the end, that All Might!"

He's referring to All Might, right? Which makes Midoriya the tenth inheritor. But there were eight and a half (there was one who only had an eye) eyes that were peeking through the entrance! Confusing.

Midoriya never got a single blow landed on GT and he was stopped at the end. GT said that Midoriya was rigid and his awareness is disjointed. He told Midoriya: " your feelings of admiration for and sense of responsibility to All Might has become fetters. Shackles."

GT said that Midoriya thinks of OFA as special and when Midoriya asked GT about what he should do, GT answered he must figure it out himself.
When left alone, Midoriya realized he was thinking OFA as a trump card when in fact, a quirk is "just another function of the body" so he must think of it "flatly".

Finally. Midoriya will be able to free himself from the shadows of All Might. GT is right, he copied how All Might used OFA and that was his shackles. Midoriya failed to see that he is different from All Might. He even used the names All Might called his finishing blows. I find it ironic that Midoriya told Todoroki he owns his quirks when he did not applied it to himself.

Original moves coming from Midoriya in the coming chapters are to be expected. I'm sure he'll develop super-speed since GT is fast.

I am guessing Gran Torino's quirk involves springy legs? He seems to be bouncing. Also, in his prime, he's a muscle-dude which can be expected since he needs muscle power to counter the speed and prevent bone breaking from using that type of quirk. Also, from the picture I posted above, his boots emitted something like air. I assume this acts like a counter-force to halt his movements. Bouncing is very difficult. You need to strike fast to avoid the enemy hitting you while in midair. I guess those boots created helps if ever those sort of things happen.

Another theory about GT's quirk, he's a human ricochet.

I think the best revelation of this chapter was All Might's real name: Toshinori, how adorable.

Fitting way to end the chapter: revealing All Might''s name!
Let's talk about GT being All Might's former teacher. He was a teacher at Yuuei for only a year. I think it's because of extreme training methods he imposed on students. He also had a hand at All Might's training. Did All Might's former master (former OFA wielder) suddenly died? I think it's a possibility. Since Gran Torino is All Might's master's friend, he felt compelled to train Toshinori in his friend's stead. Might be, might be.

Something unexpected that happened to Toshinori's master (like being murdered by villains since he won't be as powerful as he was when he still got OFA) is the only possibility I can think of for GT to personally oversee his training.

I will repeat it again, this is a dark forbearance that All Might is about to say goodbye to all of us.

REVIEW : Chapter 46 (Bizarre! Gran Torino Enters The Fray!)

Last week's chapter focused on the hero names of each character, this week it's about the hero office they want to undergo their on-the-job training.

Before that, I want to talk about the cover of this chapter where Iida is noticeably absent. Maybe I was expecting him to appear since Deku and Ochako (I'll start calling by her first name because it's easier to read) are on the cover together. Bakugou is also absent which I don't really find disturbing because I think it's time for Nice Kid Kirishima to have a spot for this cover. Of course, everyone's favorite Tsuyu makes her appearance for the cover.

On topic. Each student will have a week to undergo a hero training on a hero office of their choice. The nominated students received a list of the hero offices who voted for them and they have the chance to pick the office they think will suit to their capabilities which I will explain later. However, those who did not receive nominations will still be given a list of participating hero offices and they will pick the one they want to work under.
Ochako looks really cute this chapter!

Aizawa told the class to choose the hero office carefully. He also mentioned that some regret their choices when they reached their senior years.

Well, priorities change. There aren't a lot of teens who immediately know what they want to be in the future. Although, Ochako chose Battle Hero Gunhead's office which, according to Deku is a hardened battle group quite opposite to what she wanted to become as a hero ( Battle Gunhead sounds like a hero office Bakugou would join), she did so because she knows a lot of opportunity would come if she's stronger.

It seems like Ochako will be the cutiepie-but-amazonian-strong type of female character of the series. She'll blind you with her brightness then crush you with a giant boulder.

All Might - terrified of Gran Torino
What we know so far: Ochako will join Gunhead (I assume this is the hero's name), Kirishima wanted to join a hero office who specializes in urban counter villainism, Tsuyu with something flood-related, Shouto looks like he will join his father, Iida will join Tokyo (Hosu City) Normal Hero Office.

After class, All Might came and told Deku about the nomination he received. All Might was visibly nervous. He revealed the hero's name and said he was a friend of his predecessor by which I think All Might's master's rival.

Gran Torino was his former homeroom teacher. What I want to know is why he taught at Yuuei for only a year? I can assume he's ten times more vicious than Aizawa, judging by All Might's reaction. That line where All Might stated "The thought of him once more taking up his hero name and nominating you is... terrifying." Terrifying, coming from All Might. He might've subjected young All Might in terrible and life-threatening methods of training.

And Gran Torino did so because young All Might is his rival's protégé. I don't know, this is only a guess.

The day when class A will start their first day of training, Deku approached Iida and told him he can talk to them about what happened. Iida smiled and said okay before walking away with that dark face.

Rather than join his family's hero office he opted for another. Hosu Normal Hero Office sounds like a police force to me. It might be the office where he will have the highest probability of encountering Stain.

Deku's train of thought is about regret of not trying harder to reach out to his friend is already a foreshadowing of what's about to come.

Look at Iida's face in the panel. Half is exposed in light while the other half is darker. It's obvious his character is turning dark. Yeah you can pretend it's alright when you are really raging inside.

Stain's character design - total badass
He might cross paths with Stain and experience a devastating loss. He might also become injured. Worse, he might spiral down to a darker path.

I miss the old Iida, bring him back.

Last part, Deku went to the address All Might gave him and came to an old and dilapidated building.

He entered and discovered Gran Torino lying on the floor and thought him dead. He wasn't. He just tripped and splattered all the tomato sauce and sausages on the floor.

At first Deku thought he was too old to actually train him. Gran Torino shrunk into a little old grandpa and always asks Deku who he is.

Deku was disapppointed and said All Might does not have much time left and he can't waste his time with the old man.

Gran Torino suddenly jumped all over the place with lightning speed and challenged Deku to come a him.

Old Man Torino suddenly doesn't look too old.

He certainly knows about One For All. If he had a hand in training All Might then he's able to withstand the OFA.

If my prediction turns out correct and he was the rival of All Might's master then Gran Torino is the best teacher Deku can have so far now that All Might is losing his power.

We know All Might is about to die soon. He might get killed because he no longer possess the same kind of power he once had. Gran Torino's appearance is already a sign Deku found another person who could teach him - after All Might dies.

I will be very heartbroken when this happens because I love All Might! Noooo...

Next chapter I'm looking forward to see how this meeting will end up. Also, I'm excited to see the look of Deku's new hero costume. Old Man Torino commented they look great so we can expect it's not the same as the jumpsuits his mom made for him.

I have a question, though.

Why did Deku, being the hero nerdlord that he is, not know Gran Torino?

SPOILER: Chapter 46

The mysterious hero who voted for Deku?
Major spoilers ahead!

Latest raws are out and I formulated lots and lots of assumption since I don't understand Chinese characters.

It seems our heroes are about to be trained by Aizawa. There was a panel where they were about to go somewhere and they were carrying suitcases which I assume, contains their hero costume.

Midoriya and All Might had a talk and I think its about the single vote he got.

I think I was right about my prediction that the one who voted for Deku was a former awesome hero judging by the illustration. What I did not expect was that guy would look smaller than when he was younger.

There will be a lot of things to be discussed in this chapter especially in terms of the identity of the old man and Iida.

REVIEW: Chapter 45 (A Meeting For Trying Out New Names)

Another interesting chapter this week. Midoriya was shown on the first part riding a train on his way to school. Someone recognized him and gave encouragement. At school, everyone was talking about how they were called on the streets. They felt real famous even for just one day thanks to the televised Yuuei Sports Festival. We get to know a great deal why Yuuei is a prestigious school and what a great honour it is to be admitted.

Iida Tenya seems to be composed as he talks to Midoriya
about his elder brother
We get to see Iida rushing in telling the walking Midoriya that they're going to be late. Midoriya said they were five minutes early to where Iida the baseline for a student worthy of Yuuei starting the day's activity is ten minutes early. Iida seemed weird and overly-dramatic as usual (wearing boots and a raincoat, haha) but he seemed gloomy at the same time. He's taking what happened to his brother gracefully. He even thanked Midoriya for causing unneccessary concern which was sooo polite and it really how much of a wealthy family he was raised in that kind of demeanor.

Aizawa-sensei's face unwrapped
Finally Aizawa-sensei entered the room without the bandages he was previously wrapped in. I am happy to finally see hi droopy-eyes once more. As soon as he began, everyone especially Kirishima and Kaminari suddenly got nervous since Aizawa has a habit of surprising students and causing them anxiety.

Aizawa-sensei's announcement for the formulation of hero names
But it was not a surprise examination or a sudden mock-battle, Aizawa announced that it is time for them to choose their hero name. Everyone was so excited.
The result of the nominations from the pros

Aizawa pointed out that the nominations will matter after their sophomore and senior years when their battle experience and combat skills are fully realized.

As expected, Shouto Todoroki has the most nominations. Although I had to agree it has something to do with the relation he has with Endeavor, I also believe the pros are aware of his potential to be a great hero. He's battle-smart, he's calculating, he owns two elemental types of quirks. That's more than enough to catch the eye of scouts and pros. And no, I refuse to believe Todoroki will be a sidekick of some hero.

Bakugou Katsuki came in second. It seems that what he did during the awarding ceremony was completely overlooked and the pros focused on his potential instead. Let's not forget that Bakugou has short fuse, will not cooperate in a team, looks down on others and has a mouth full of trash. But no, it all comes down to what he can offer I had to admit that it's difficult to see Bakugou as a role model and someone to look up to for kids, but the guy has charisma.

It was surprising that Midoriya did not get a single vote. It must have hurt since he qualified for the top 8 in the tournament.

As Aizawa-sensei pointed out, the list is subject to change. Everybody still has a chance to prove themselves and those kids at the top can be removed from their rankings. No worries Midoriya, my boy. I believe it's too early in the series to catch the attention of everyone. As All Might said, since you look so ordinary whatever heroic deed you do will be more pronounced since people are not expecting a lot from you.

Next was the formulation of hero names which was facilitated by no other than Midnight since Aizawa-sensei admitted he can't properly evaluate hero names. I enjoyed the frame where Aizawa was shown sitting with his sleeping bag in a corner while Midnight enthusiastically motivate the class to come up with creative names.
Class 1A presenting their hero names
Watching everyone present their hero name in front was hilarious. I was quite surprised that unlike Tsuyu who had known since elementary what kind of name she will use, the others don't. Froppy is an adorable name for a hero and added to the likeability of Tsuyu as character in this series.

Other names are too obvious and lack creativity especially Creaty by Momo. What? You can create so many things yet unable to create a creative hero name for yourself?! Uravity is not too catchy for me. I think Gravity Girl is much better than that but hey, who cares about my opinion? The kid with a rock for a face (because I forgot his name) looks so adorable with that shy reaction, awww. He looks so tough but he's really gooey. Ashido was really hilarious for trying so hard to come up with names.

Bakugou seemed keen to incorporate the word KILL to his hero name which Midnight discouraged him to use. He's going to be a hero, why would he use the word for a hero name? Might as well put the words murder and death in there too.

Shouto just wanted to be called Shouto and without any taglines, too. Iida chose to use also his name. He could not bring himself to use his brother's name as his own. It was made known that Ingenium can no longer use his legs and will give up on being a hero so he asked Tenya to use the name in his stead by which Iida apparently won't use.

Midoriya's speech about his chosen hero name, Deku
Midoriya my boy was the last to present his hero name and behold, he chose Deku. The degrading name Bakugou gave him which means worthless.

He decided to use the name since a certain someone changed the meaning of the word for him which gives off the vibe of not giving up.

Oh, Midoriya. Can't you give credit to Uraraka by saying it was her that gave you another meaning to that monicker? I am super excited for this development since I think they look good together. Damn those people who thinks Uraraka would end up with Bakugou. But isn't it awesome? Deku was given by Bakugou to degrade Midoriya but Uraraka gave it a more optimistic meaning? I am having another bad feeling about this, please don't make this a love triangle, no.

Moving on, the names that I really liked were:

Jirou's Earphone Jack, it really suits her but I have reservations about her tagline Hearing Hero. It's like a tongue twister.

Tokoyami's Tsukuyomi, The Jet Black Hero sounds someone to incite fear to the heart. It also sounds too gloomy. Fumikage Tokoyami as Tsukuyomi, wow, that really seems like a dark brooding figure ready to take me to the underworld.

The name that stood out for me was Eijirou Kirishima's Red Riot, let's forget the tagline the Hero of Hard Virility. Kirishima said he borrowed the idea from his hero idol Crimson Riot who was a hero from way back. I think Red Riot is total badass. Now if Bakugou can think of an awesome hero name for himself which isn't violent-sounding.

All Might's reaction to the surprise voter for Deku
And what caps off a good chapter than a good cliffhanger. While class 1A was busy with their presentation, Cementoss received a late vote and told All Might it was a single vote for Deku. I disregarded Cementoss' surprised reaction thinking a vote for Midoriya was just unexpected but no! All Might's reaction at the end really bothered and excited me, made me curse the fact that I had to wait for a week to know who it was.

And I am not really sure if the next chapter will reveal that person since there was no trace about what happened to Todoroki's visit with his mom. Todoroki looked sad, but he looks sad all the time.

The first person that came to mind considering All Might's reaction was Endeavor. He did seem to take interest in Midoriya after their encounter and there are panels to support this claim.

Another person I think will be someone we haven't seen yet, a new character imtroduced. I just had this idea since Kirishima mentioned a hero from long ago. It's possible a retired hero but a really powerful one in his day, a legend, a pillar of the heroics industry and respected voted for Midoriya which makes the vote more remarkable than anyone else's. Crimson Riot, perhaps? I thought since Kirishima dropped his name it has to have some relevance to the story than being just Kirishima's idol.

Come out next chapter please!

REVIEW: The Sports Festival Arc

Momo, Ashido and Tooru. Loving the tiny
details in this picture
I can't think of a name for this arc than that since using tournament is too common. Most mangas have tournaments to be able to introduce new characters, potential rivals, showcase the cast's power, etc. Yes, Boku no Hero Academia has a tournament arc in the form of the sports festival.

Since I created this blog when the tournament is about to end, I feel that I had to discuss a lot in this post especially  the things that I did not had the chance to tackle in this blog.

Yuuei holds a Sports Festival annually where students from all levels will participate. Students from the departments of Heroics, General Education and Support will compete in the festival. Consider it as a Junior Olympics because everyone is looking forward to it. Students will be able to show their fighting skills that might attract scouts and professional heroes.

Class 1A is the center of attention here since it was huge news that they came face-to-face with real villains.

The games consistent of a race where everyone has to cross to the finish line to be able to qualify for the next round. Midoriya came first, then Todoroki, Bakugou was in third place.

Random panels from the Human
Cavalry Battle
After that came the Human Cavalry Battle where the qualified students will team up and create a warhorse consisting of themselves. Each will have a respective point that reflected their rank in the race, Midoriya was given ten million points (which was a bit of an overkill if you ask me). The accumulated points of the group will be then put in a headband and the rider will have to be the one who will wear it.

Moments I liked during the Human Cavalry Battle:

Iida refusing to join Midoriya's team and challenging him.

Tokoyami finally having the screen time he deserves and Dark Shadow making an appearance.

Bakugou's headband stolen by Monoma from Class 1B. I totally hated Monoma's smug face. He's similar to Bakugou who looks down on others. Bakugou insults people and trashtalk them while Monoma insults and provokes people in a calm demeanor which I totally hate. Therefore,

Monoma being overtaken by Bakugou was a winner for me. I can't believe I rooted for Bakugou but I hate Monoma more.

Shinsou appearing as mysterious as ever which only added to his charm.

Dark Shadow's weakness and Iida's recipro-burst (and its weakness) was revealed in this event.

New characters introduced who, I personally think will have a
huge role in the chapters and arcs to come.
The teams formed during this game were totally unexpected. I expected Iida to team up with Midoriya and Uraraka but he chose to be in Todoroki;s group. Bakugou teamed up with Kirishima since someone needs to be able to withstand the recoil of his explosions.

It was an intense game and several interesting characters from class 1B were introduced.

However, the team that won the tournament was team Todoroki who got Midoriya's headband. Bakugou's team, team Midoriya, team Shinsou (from General Education Department) and team Tetsutetsu (from Department of Heroics class 1B) qualified for the next event.

As expected, the proceeding event was a tournament. Midoriya my boy and our main character competed against Shinsou who has brainwash quirk. Fortunately, Midoriya got out of his mind control and was able to win the match. However, Midoriya lost to Todoroki in the quarter finals. Long story short, Bakugou win the overall competition with ashameful victory and will advance to compete in the all-grade round-robin.

Most Memorable Moments:

Midoriya being challenged by Todoroki and Iida - What I find particularly amusing is that Todoroki and Midoriya shared similar lines "I'm going to beat you."

Uraraka and Bakugou's match - Respect for Uraraka being able to hold her own against the monster Bakugou. I knew she won't win against her opponent but this match proves she is not the typical sunny-talkative-female but is gearing up to be one of the important character in terms of powerful and versatile abilities. This match is also memorable since Bakugou actually acknowledge her as an opponent by not holding back because she's a girl. Most memorable would be Bakugou actually shouting her name, which by Bakugou's standards, is respectful.

Kirishima and Tetsu4's match - they're both my favorite characters. I enjoyed watching them both trying their hardest (no pun intended) to win against each other. Person who can withstand the opponent's blows? Both collapsed at the same time, woke up at the same time. The match was decided by armwrestling (of all things) which was won by Kirishima. But he acknowledged the manliness of Tetsu4 during their match.

Todoroki's past - he told Midoriya how he got his Zuko-scar and why he never want  to use his fire side in combat. Todoroki's story is the one with the real drama in this manga. It is really tragic. His father only wanted children so he can create a thing to surpass All Might. After Shouto came with a double element as quirk, Endeavor was determined to train him to become a hero to defeat All Might. Shouto blamed Endeavor for what happened to his mom and vowed never to use his fire side.

Todoroki and Midoriya's match - it is memorable since Todoroki finally used his fire side and defeated Midoriya in the process.

Bakugou and Todoroki's match - Although like Midoriya, Bakugou challenged Todoroki to fight him with all his strength, meaning both his ice and fire side. However, Todoroki was confused about using it again. He wants to use his ice for his mom and refuses to use his fire side as a disavowal from his father. Though he did unleashed fire, he suppressed it thus receiving the full impact of Bakugou's attack and being swept out of bounds. It was a disappointing match for me and that makes it memorable. Todoroki, I hope your visit to your mom settles your personal issues.

Midoriya's memorable line - Of all things that happened in this arc, this has got to be my most favorite. Midoriya, having a wrecked arm managed to challenge Todoroki to give his all. He really raises  a nice point here, everyone's trying their best and here you are declaring you will win using only half your power. How appropriatley insulting. Wow, what a provocation. Because of that Midoriya my boy, you earn the most badass dialogue so far.

I personally like this arc because it is not too lengthy. All fights comprised of only a few chapters. This might be questionable but it worked because every panel mattered and executed perfectly. It deviates from the normal stuff we see where each fight can run up to 20+ chapters and sometimes three chapters were completely uneccessary to the fight.

That's another merit this arc has, every chapter is packed. It has fun moments, drama and action. Where others focus on one emotion per chapter, BnHA utilizes different emotions in quick succession that surprisingly works for us readers.

Midoriya expressing his desire to become a hero like All Might
Though we did not get to see a fight where a seemingly lesser quirk win against a powerful one, this arc informed us about the weaknesses and limitations each quirk has which are also important, Horikoshi might be saving a smart-fight in the future. I honestly think that Momo's creation quirk, Tokoyami's Dark Shadow and Shinsou's mind-control are very powerful ones. They had to improve in their combat skills and they will be epic in the future.

This arc also established the appearance of another powerful villain who caused Iida's brother harm. I do not have any idea what Ingenium's condition is now but what took place will have a huge impact on Iida.

The Sports Festival revealed the dreams and aspirations of the characters' commitment on wanting to become heroes.

Revelations are also a prime factor for me loving this arc. All Might revealed being quirkless (I predicted this since I haven't seen him use any supernatural power just brute strength) and Todoroki's past and the kind of relationship he had with Endeavor was shown. We also got to see him trying to fix his personal problem with his mom.

Ultimately, this arc serves as a foundation for the next arc. The characters are on their way to improvement not just in perspective but in strength too. The phasing might be rapid but I really like how it's going until now. I cant wait for the proceeding chapter and I hope it eclipse this arc,

REVIEW: Chapter 44 (Compensatory Free Day of Rest)

The top three (Iida is not present). Bakugou in chains
The tournament is officially done! It should've been the final four standing on the platform and Tokoyami and Iida sharing third place however, Iida was permitted by the school administrators to leave and attend to his brother.

Unfortunately, the moment Bakugou woke up was not shown. I was expecting he will raise hell for what Todoroki did during their match.

But this outcome made up for that when Bakugou was in the top platform chained and gagged. He looked like a criminally-insane person being transferred to another maximum security prison. If he wasn't bound, he'll definitely leap towards Todoroki and try to kill him regardless of the heroes watching.

I had to agree with Tokoyami, he's a demon. And Bakugou's actually making a huge spectacle of himself. His classmates are actually embarrassed. You know, the feeling you have when someone is embarrassing himself and you feel the same for that person? Yep.

All Might awarding Tokoyami his medal. Tokoyami surprised
when All Might hugged him
As expected, it was All Might who awarded the medals after making a dramatic entrance.

He did gave Tokoyami advice to not always rely on his quirk. Aside from training to fight with Dark Shadow, he must also train himself to be better at combat like Aizawa-sensei. Makes sense. Dark Shadow's powers depend on amount of light. He can't utilize his true power if Tokoyami is fighting in broad daylight. He can't choose to fight during the night. And he can't choose his opponents.

That is a wake up call since he had a bad match-up with Bakugou and he can't use Dark Shadow efficiently during the human cavalry battle (when their group was targeted by Todoroki's group) because of Kaminari.

Because of this I believe Tokoyami will be a force to be reckoned with in the future. He has a bird's head for goodness sake! He's a totally unique character. You see him looking at the medal? I bet he's thinking that he will place higher next time.

All Might giving Todoroki medal and hugging him. I was
like - awwww, he needed that so much
Then All Might presented Todoroki the medal. All Might knew something was bothering Todoroki since he knew that Todoroki suppressed his left side during the match.Todoroki said he's confused.

It's confirmed. Todoroki really let himself be defeated that easily by Bakugou because he could not decide whether he should use fire.

The fight with Midoriya triggered him to use his left side but was confused later on. He said he lost sight of what he should do. He said he can't come to a decision all by himself because that would be wrong. That means... yeah, he has to talk to his mom.

I was touched when All Might embraced Todoroki. He really need hugs. He wanted to become a hero like All Might (not like Dad, sorry Endeavor). Todoroki was watching an interview of All Might with his mom when his mother told him he can become a hero. It added to the feels.

I noted that Endeavor wasn't shown during the awarding ceremony.

All Might presenting the top three. Bakugou bites the win
It's Bakugou's turn to receive the medal and he is not happy. All Might suggested that he will be continuously appraised by society so he should treat the medal as a wound instead so he will not forget.

Bakugou still refuses the medal. Even if society acknowledges the win, if he doesn't, it's empty. All Might gave him the medal anyway - by making him bite it.

Well, that silenced him.

All Might gave a memorable speech acknowledging the efforts made by the freshman class He told everyone that "the next generation of heroes will surely sprout from the seeds planted this day."

We got a panel of Shigaraki Tomura. I remembered his mentor telling him to watch the tournament because the some of the participants might cross-paths with him in the future. Tomura laughed at that since they were only kids. But now that All Might himself announced that they will be future heroes, Tomura will remember. And he's got a grudge with these students.

I did not see the second and third years. It's quite disappointing. Maybe we'll only get to see the two who won in their respective levels, the two students who would compete with Bakugou in the interlevel round robin tournament. This is going to be exciting! And good thing that the sports festival was not disrupted by the villains. Everyone's hoping for that NOT to happen.

Iida Tensei's condition finally revealed
After the ceremony, Aizawa-sensei announced to the class that they have a day off and he'll present the nominations coming from the pros after the break.

They'll get to rest physically but will be anxious about the nomination. I'm not sure how it goes and what will happen. From what I know so far, the reason scouts and heroes watch the Yuuei sports festival is they are searching for sidekicks to work under them. Uraraka wanted to leave a good impression so the heroes will notice and maybe allow her to work for them.

Maybe when you are chosen, you will be able to work immediately under them? Or since they are too young, they'll train under the hero and once they graduate, they will be sidekicks or go solo? Moving on...

We got to see Iida rushing to his brother. Tensei just went through an operation that saved his life. It appears that he really took a beating from Stain.

It was a heart-breaking moment. Tensei, regardless of his condition praised Tenya for being such a brilliant brother and even apologized for not being a better role model. No wonder Tenya look up to his brother so much. Tensei is such a kind person, considering little brother's feelings first before his own.

Todoroki coming face-to-face with his mother
After that, Todoroki Residence was shown and we were imtroduced to Shouto's eldest sister Fuyumi whose hair is spotted with black. She's asking Todoroki why he wants to see their mother after so long.

He thinks he's the one responsible for her condition so he did not visit her.

The reason he will visit his mom, and he was nervous by the way, is so that he will once again be able to aim to become a hero and be free of his father.

I think Todoroki will explain to his mom why he does not want to use his left side. He might also talk about his quirk of fire and ice being his own and not his father's (who's only contribution is fire, not both!) and asking her opinion about it.

I hope the meeting turns out fine. Todoroki's mom is seen holding something and I'm sure it's a family photo. If not a family photo, mom and son's photo or mom and her children's photo.

I think the reason Endeavor was not shown in the awarding ceremony is because this chapter involves Shouto's mom. Leave Endeavor out of this, please.

Uraraka's mom and dad
Then we see Uraraka walking home and it seemed she just went to the grocery. She went home and her parents suddenly appeared and "attacked" her!

Uraraka's eyes popping out and twirling reminded me of Usopp's reaction after eating Tatababasco fruit. The panel I found particularly hilarious was when Uraraka's mom pushed the eyeballs inside.

We found out that Uraraka lived alone while she's attending Yuuei which adds to her commitment to be a hero as early as possible.

She got her eyebrows from dad and the rest, the hair, the rosy-cheeks, from her mom. I wonder who she inherited her quirk from. Anyway, I honestly think she's got cool parents and her dad looks strong, too. They're in the construction business so it can be expected.

Izuku's mo
Next we have Midoriya's mom doing what mom's do best, worry about their child. The setting was really ordinary, both were talking while eating breakfast and mom related to Midoriya how she fainted seven times.

Mom was really worried about Midoriya's quirk being too risky and said she will continue to cheer for him but it doesn't mean it puts her mind at ease.

Midoriya knows his mom and friends are worried about him. He remembered Recovery Girl telling him she will no longer treat his wounds gained by using One For All.

Because of that, Midoriya decided to create a method of his own perhaps his own training technique to be able to handle OFA more efficiently.

Is this a foreshadowing of All Mght's immiment death? Midoriya seeing previous OFA bearers, Stain appearing and now Midoriya's conviction of creating his own method of training. If the method succeeds, which it will because Midoriya's smart, he will depend on All Might to give advice and no more personal training.

Bakugou's furious face
I love this chapter. I think this had to be one of the best chapters in this manga. It has everything.

The awarding ceremony was hilarious because of Bakugou being restrained and gagged. Him struggling with his chains was fun to watch. That face he made when All Might removed the object that covers his mouth was so funny even All Might noticed his face.

From fun moment we jumped to a heart-breaking one with the Iida brothers. I know that Iida maintains an image which is formal and comical at the same time and he expresses himself in a rigid but hilarious way (courtesy of his hand gestures). This is the first time we saw him cry because of the brother he really look up to.

Team Todoroki
From heart-breaking moment we keep our hopes up for Todoroki's reunion with his mother. I really hope she supports him to finally use is fire side afterall, she encouraged him to become a hero like she once said.

Can I just say?  I think Todoroki is always well-drawn I can't help but have a slight and irrational crush on him. I take back what I said about him being the stereotypical quiet type. Todoroki's just... quiet. He's not cold (no pun intended). He does not underestimate people. He actually knows how to apologize and is courteous. I think after Midoriya, he's on my number three list of favorite characters. Certain modifications on that list must be made.

After the heart-warming moment with Todoroki, we see another reunion. This time Uraraka reuniting with her parents again. She got her kindness and sunny attitude from her parents. Her parents will always be with her no matter what, cheering her on.

Last, Midoriya committing to himself about creating his own training technique to handle OFA. He does not want those important to him worry. This is something to look forward to.

So the main cast are on their way to improvement.

1. All Might telling Tokoyami to not rely too much on Dark Shadow and improve his combat skills.

2. All Might giving Bakugou advice that people won't have an unchanging view of you so keep the medal as a sort of wound to remember that.

3. Iida Tenya emotionally wrecked after what happened to his brother. Are the wounds so serious that Tensei has to retire from being a hero? We will surely witness a character change here. He might want to seek vengeance for what happened to Tensei but seeing his eldest brother's kindness, he'll advice Tenya against it.

4. Todoroki will have tremendous character growth after talking with his mother. Thank goodness for this chapter the characters deserving appearance were given not just screen time but a chance for character growth, too.

5. Midoriya committed on improving himself, by himself.

Before I finish this monstrosity of a post, I give you the current best line of Bakugou Katsuki for 2015. This is also the last panel.

This is friggin' hilarous! Seems like he wanted to brush away the remnants of the medal shoved into his teeth.

I really don't understand but there are times I root for Bakugou, sometimes I find him adorable but then he'll turn bully again and I'll hate him agaim. Ugh! I guess it's what makes his character unique from others. He's hateable but you can't totally hate him.

I hope Horikoshi-sensei maintains this way of delivering chapters. As far as I can see, there are no wasted chapters-yet. No unnecessary panels-yet. Although there is one totally unnecessary characters and that's Mineta.

There you have it. Chapter 44 with a variety of tones and moods all packed in a single chapter. This is the reason why Boku no Hero Academia is one of my favorite manga. I hope it runs for 500+ chapters.
